This delightful new multi-functional building has been sensitively dovetailed into the existing campus at Wellington School.

Known as Café 37, it links different spaces together to provide a large social and study area at the heart of the school. During the week, it is used mostly by the Sixth Form whilst at weekends it serves as a social area for students and visitors supporting various sporting events at the school.

Key to its success is its flexibility, from informal group discussion to larger formal lectures and presentations.

An exposed glulam timber frame with generous over-sailing canopy above the full-height glazed gable gives Café 37 a distinct visual identity. The simple pitched roof form and careful choice of brickwork and clay roof tiles provide visual integration with the adjoining buildings and wider townscape.

Building procurement was project-managed directly by the school’s estate department.
