Previously, the various technology departments at Millfield School were in separate buildings in different parts of the campus.

This major conversion project has created one centralised ‘hub’ with all the teaching spaces, workshops & display areas in one location.

Working within the footprint of the redundant dining hall building, a major space planning exercise was undertaken to ensure all facilities could be satisfactorily collocated taking into account furniture and equipment, class sizes, safe working areas, circulation, access / egress, ceiling heights, natural / technical ventilation, services requirements, etc.

A new exhibition foyer has been created complete with generous spiral staircase under a spectacular roof lantern. A new glazed entrance screen offering views of the display area provides the CDT department with a strong sense of identity and visual impact.

Adjoining the CDT department is a new food technology centre which was also created by refurbishing and converting the original kitchens and office space that once served the old dining facility.
