This significant project for Millfield School involved the phased refurbishment of the main 4-storey teaching blocks.
Each classroom was carefully re-planned to optimise the space available. The new fittings and finishes were selected to create a contemporary teaching environment that gives identity to the different departments whilst providing visual continuity throughout the buildings. Works included new acoustic ceilings with integral low energy lighting and IT services, new floor and wall finishes, new internal doors and ironmongery throughout.
The use of colour with increased natural light and improved acoustics all help to enhance accessibility and way-finding around the refurbished teaching blocks.
The existing entrance foyers of both Blocks were also significantly remodelled internally and externally including new automatic entrance doors, large roof lantern & external cladding.
Throughout each design stage, we worked closely with the school to ensure the project budget was not exceeded, including extensive research and investigation to eliminate as many ‘construction’ risks as possible. The programme of works also had to be completed during the schools summer holiday period, which demanded careful forward planning.
