Colin Atkinson Pavilion

The Colin Atkinson Pavilion at the County Ground in Taunton has formed an important part of the Club’s history. Built in the 1970s, it originally accommodated dining facilities, management offices and the players’ changing rooms. Following completion of the Andy Caddick Pavilion, also designed by LED Architects, the original facilities became redundant and the opportunity arose for a comprehensive redevelopment.

The building was completely gutted, including the careful removal of internal floors and walls. The roofscape was remodelled and integrated with a new first-floor seating balcony and external staircases.

Internally, the renewed pavilion includes an extended banqueting room and bar, a new first-floor “long room” with spectacular views across the ground towards the church towers beyond, a new commercial kitchen and servery, refurbished toilets, and a new reception with main staircase and lift. The project gave an established building a new role within the evolving County Ground while significantly improving its hospitality and event facilities.
