This project has proved to be a major step forward for the Academy enabling students to dine in a bespoke dining facility instead of taking food to the main hall, thus providing greater space flexibility, better supervision and a safer, more hygienic environment.

The project involved the complete ‘gutting’ of redundant changing rooms and the existing outdated kitchen to provide a new 240-seat dining area combined with a new modern commercial kitchen and servery.

The original shell was remodelled and extended to create a large welcoming space with generous new windows providing open views and ample natural light.

The neutral tones of the wall and floor finishes are complemented by the bright furniture colours and artwork. The new suspended ceiling creates an excellent acoustic ambience and also helps to distinguish the primary functional areas. A separate ‘café-zone’ is very popular with the sixth form students which operates throughout the day as an effective informal study space.
