Millfield School has a fantastic reputation for sporting achievement. In order to help underpin this, the school has invested significantly in top quality sports facilities including the new Sports Centre at the Preparatory School.
The development is located in a sensitive rural setting within sight of Glastonbury Tor and is broken down as a series of interlocking curved roof volumes to help reduce the overall scale. Facilities include a multi-use sports hall with generous viewing balcony, four squash courts (including 3 with glass backs), changing facilities for 250 children, school shop, offices and reception area. Internally the building is spacious and light with a fully sprung timber floor and acoustic soffit in the main hall.
Folding louvred window screens allow natural lighting and ventilation of the main hall at low and high levels, thus providing multi-use flexibility throughout the year, including views over the adjoining sports pitches.
