The new Tor Ward at Musgrove Park Hospital has been formed by the creative conversion of non-medical areas into much-needed clinical facilities.
The new admissions and assessment accommodation includes a 20-bed ward with auxiliary and isolation rooms, central nurses’ work station, patient showers and toilets, staff changing rooms, staff kitchen, four examination rooms with two consulting rooms, 4-bed investigation ward and visitors’ waiting area.
Critically, the project had to be undertaken within a ‘live’ hospital site which demanded careful phasing of the works to ensure disruption was kept to a minimum. Clear lines of communication between the Client, Consultant Design Team & Principal Contractor, together with a positive team approach, resulted in a very successful outcome.
